As Estela Sandoval tells it, she’s taken 3 leaps of faith in her life. First, when she left her successful career to work for a nonprofit corporation in California, where she was raised. Next, when she opened her own photography studio. And finally, when she joined Kynect. Each milestone has had its twists and turns, but, as our newest Executive Directors, it seems Estela and her husband Raul are where they belong at last.
A Vehicle for Possibility
No journey is truly linear, and Estela’s story is a prime example. She was actually introduced to Kynect in 2007 by a longtime friend. She joined, but it didn’t go further than that. Her photography business was booming. She and Raul were focused on their family: 4 grown children and, as of today, 11 grandchildren. Estela canceled her position and put Kynect out of her mind for the next decade.
But by 2017, a few things had happened. She let go of the photography studio after 13 years. Money was tight without that stream of income. Estela and Raul both drove cars that were on their last legs.
“My daughter wanted to buy me a car,” Estela recalls. “I told her, ‘I will get a car when I’m able to pay for it myself.” Nevermind the A/C constantly being on the fritz.
And then, fate came knocking again. Estela’s niece invited her back to the business and, wouldn’t you know it: By this time, Kynect had an exciting car program as part of the incentives program. And the extra income couldn’t hurt. Did she know for sure Kynect would solve her problems?
“No,” she says. “But I’m glad I took the last leap of faith and joined.”
Third Time’s the Charm
With plenty of patience and a few detours along the way, Estela and Raul are seeing their dreams come to life. According to Estela, that’s what the Kynect opportunity is all about: The opportunity to dream big and help others dream even bigger.
“I believe the old saying that what’s yours, no one can take away,” Estela explains. “So spread your seeds and you will cultivate a good harvest.”
Though she says she’s waiting on the biggest harvest of all, the haul so far is hard to ignore. They’ve qualified for the Car Program 3 years in a row. Estela says their greatest accomplishment has been raising their children into successful adults. And of course, they’ve gained countless friends who are now like brothers and sisters.
“I’m very happy with where we stand today,” she says. “It took me 10 years to come back to Kynect. God only knows where we’d be today if I hadn’t been so hard-headed in 2007.”
Still, she says she believes there’s a time and place for everything. Her seeds are growing, even if she still sometimes drives around sweating because she forgets she now has a car with a working A/C.
“To my friends that are thinking about coming in I say, if you like what you see and feel this could be something you could do, don’t wait, just start. You have so much to gain!”
