Four years ago, Alicia Harrington’s boyfriend came to her with a life-changing proposal—but not the one you may expect. It was an opportunity he said they could work on together. Something simple enough for her to do if she invested some of her very limited free time in it.
Today, she and Presidential Director Cobi Ben-Bassat are partners in business and in life. And Alicia, a 300 Club member and Power of Leadership Award winner, is Kynect’s newest Executive Director.
“Not Only Adapt—Thrive”
As a little girl, Alicia found herself in a strange new country with unfamiliar customs and culture. Her family knew almost no one here. But for a determined, precocious child like Alicia, the unknown wasn’t so scary.
“As an immigrant, one of my biggest accomplishments has been my ability to not only adapt to a new way of life, but to thrive in this country,” she explained. “I accomplished the academic goals I set for myself and worked in the field I’m passionate about.”
That field is behavioral science, working as a therapist to make a true and positive difference in people’s lives. But most of her waking hours were spent away from her daughter, Abriana, and stepson, Nate.
Then came Cobi’s presentation of the opportunity. And while most people get started because of their why, her reason was more along the lines of, “Why not?”
A Bigger Picture
After a year with Kynect, Alicia started seeing things differently. “I began to see Kynect as a vehicle to not only earn income, but to what I really desired: a lifestyle change. It was then my true why was born,” she said.
You get the sense “lifestyle” has a deeper meaning here than extra cash, cars and trips. She mentions this Mother Theresa quote: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
Through Kynect, she’s able to serve others on a larger scale, with time left over to spend with her family. It’s changed her life in more ways than she ever thought possible.
“So many blessings to count!” Alicia said. “I’ve been able to create great friendships and business partnerships. But most importantly, Kynect has allowed me to fulfill my passion to make a difference in people’s lives.” To her, Kynect means coming together with the goal of serving, and that’s what she intends to do.
“It’s tremendously humbling to inspire those who were once strangers to join me in this. It’s become my goal to inspire others to believe we are worth more,” she said. “I will carry on my mission to help others reach their goals. It’s the only way I am able to reach mine.”
Sometime in the future, Alicia plans to open an emotional/spiritual healing center for people at a financial disadvantage who have suffered trauma. For now, with service at the forefront of her mind, she will continue building her business. That “spark of hope” in someone’s eyes when they agree to join her keeps her motivated to push forward.
“Waking in someone that desire to reach for more is truly priceless,” she said. “Kynect is for us all. Anyone can succeed if they truly want it. Put your heart and action into your business and you will achieve the success you desire. There’s no glass ceiling at Kynect!”
