UPDATED: NY Customer & MEI Update

Last month, we let you know several New York utilities notified Stream that many customers had been mistakenly identified as Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) participants. As a result, an automatic process began returning affected customers to the utility.


When we first communicated this error to you, Stream was working with utilities to get those customers back. Unfortunately, the utilities have not been as responsive as we hoped, and it’s taking longer than anticipated for the customers to be returned. We hope this issue can be resolved soon, but we’re going to do all we can to support you in the meantime.


Here’s what will happen for New York Associates:


·      If you were qualified and received MEI in May, you will receive the same MEI payout in June.

·      If you had qualified customers as of April 16 and believe this issue delayed any of your compensation, email Sr. Manager of Field Development Bearj Jehanian:


We understand this is extremely frustrating for you and your teams. Hopefully, these accommodations help ensure there’s as little impact to your business as possible. As soon as we have an update on this situation’s resolution, we’ll let you know.

There’s a situation happening in New York we wanted to make sure everyone is aware of and assure you a resolution is well under way. Some Stream customers were mistakenly identified as Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) participants, which kicked off the process to return them to the utility.


The good news is that those customers haven’t actually been switched away. Stream and New York utilities are already working closely together to make sure your customers stay put and experience no disruption in their Stream service. Impacted customers will receive a letter from Stream detailing the error and an assurance that a correction is in the works.  


The great news is that Stream will be ready to release the new PSC-compliant 50% green* variable-rate plan later this month for New York electricity customers going forward, well ahead of the PSC’s reset order, slated for August.
